LaGuardia Community College has teamed up with a leader in the field of Environmental Health and Safety training programs – ANDO International Organization – to offer a wide range of intensive trainings, many leading to certification. ANDO is presently approved to teach more than twenty five accredited courses by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as well as the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut regulatory agencies, and is approved by the United States Department of Labor to teach Construction Industry/OSHA training classes.

 
 
 
 
**Classes listed below will take place at ANDO location, 44-01 21st Street, 3rd floor, except 10hr. OSHA course.

10- HOUR OSHA CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY OUTREACH TRAINING PROGRAM

The 10-hour program is intended to provide instructions on a variety of construction industry safety and health standards. Curriculum of the course covers subjects such as: introduction to OSHA General Duty Clause 5 (a)(1), electrical issues, fall protection, as well as one topic from each of the two following categories:

1 st Category

· Materials Handling, Storage, Use and Disposal

· Cranes, Derricks, Hoists, Elevators, and Conveyors

· Motor Vehicles, Mechanized Equipment, Construction Equipment.

2 nd Category

· Scaffolding

· Excavations

· Stairways and Ladders

Despite the already mentioned topics attendant also goes over other construction industry standards and polices selected adequately to the course by the instructor. 

30- HOUR OSHA CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY OUTREACH TRAINING PROGRAM

The 30 hours OSHA course covers wide area of Occupational Safety and Health Standards required on a job site. During the class attendant becomes familiar with Citation Policy Regarding 29 CFR 1926.20, 29 CFR 1926.21 and Related General Safety and Health Provisions. Components of the course curriculum are: Occupational Health and Environmental Controls (i.e. Hazard Communication), Health Hazards in Construction, Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment, Fire Protection and Prevention, Materials Rigging, Storage, Use and Disposal, Tools/Hand and Power; Machine Guarding, Welding and Cutting, Electrical, Scaffolding, Fall Protection, Cranes Derricks, Hoists, Elevators and Conveyors, and more. By the completion of the course individual gets specific safety and health knowledge required by a different types of work.

   
Confined Space

Course introduces student to the regulations and procedures of safety work in OSHA defined confined spaces (i.e. storage tanks). During the course attendant goes over the topics such as: recognition of hazards, health effects of exposure, testing procedures for atmospheric monitoring and legal liability. Training meets OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 requirements.

Asbestos Inspector

This course gives individuals preparation for investigating asbestos containing materials as well as for collecting bulk samples, survey, personal protective equipment (PPE), building systems, health hazards, legal liabilities, public employee, building occupant relations, and recordkeeping.

Project Designer

Designer certification is required for individuals who are responsible for phasing and/or remediation methods, timing, planning the scope and applying the above mentioned to any asbestos project. According to the NYS Education Department anyone, who submits plans to SED must be previously certified as a designer.

OSHA Hazwoper/40 Hours

Successful completion of this course will enable students to earn the OSHA 40 hour Hazardous Material Certification. You will learn how to recognize hazards on the work site; safe work practices; how to deal with dangerous chemicals; and heat and cold stress. In addition, medical monitoring, personal protection equipment, safe sampling techniques, and general responsibilities that managers have on the worksite will be covered. At the conclusion of this course you will have improved your ability to spot hazards on the job and how to deal with them

Project Monitor

A person, who oversees the scope, methodology or does the quality control on abatement projects but is not a supervisor, must carry the project monitor certification. This includes those who represent owner and/or act in a “third party”. (40 hours)

Air Sampling Technician

Is dedicated for those who perform air sampling related activities. Curriculum covers: air sampling techniques, inspections and procedures, regulations, emergency response etc.  During the course attendant gets familiar with the methodology for representative quality assurance for both personal and area sampling for phase contrast microscopy (PCM) and transmission electron microscopy analysis (TEM). (16 hours)

Disaster Site Worker Outreach Training Program

All workers at disaster sites need to be aware of the differences between disaster site and regular construction site, and pre-incident training is essential for ensuring worker safety and health. You will learn about utility demolition, debris removal, heavy equipment operation and site clean-up services in response to natural and man-made disasters. This course enhances awareness of both management and labor.
